When the battery is low

ReplacethebatterywithanewonewhenthePOWERindicatorblinks

orlightsoff.PushthePUSHOPENbuttontoopenthebatterylidand

removethebatteryinthedirectionasil ustrated.

Youcanusetheheadphonesevenwithoutturningonthepower.In

thiscase,thenoisecancelingfunction,DigitalEqualizerandS-Master

arenotactive,andtheheadphonesoperateaspassiveheadphones.

Adjusttheearpadssothattheycoveryourears,otherwisenoisecanceling

Donotcoverthemicrophoneoftheheadphoneswithyourhands.The

noisecancelingfunctionmaynotworkproperly.

Afteryouturnonthepoweroftheheadphones,youmayhearaslight

hiss.Thisistheoperatingsoundofthenoisecancelingfunction,nota

malfunction.

Becausetheheadphonesareofahighdensityenclosure,forcingthem

againstyourearsmayresultineardrumdamage.Avoidusingthe

headphoneswheretheyareliabletobestruckbypeopleorotherobjects,

suchasaball,etc.Pressingtheheadphonesagainstyourearsmayproduce

adiaphragmclicksound.Thisisnotamalfunction.

Utilizing the AI Noise Canceling

AI Noise Canceling

AINoiseCancelingisausefulfunctionthatautomaticallyselectsone

ofthenoisecancelingmodes.Thisfunctionprovidesthemosteffective

noisecancelingmodebyimmediatelyanalyzingambientsound

componentswhentheAINCbuttonispressed.
PresstheAINCbutton.

WhenyoupresstheAINCbuttonandthePOWERswitchissetto

“ON”,beepsoundscomefromtheheadphonestoinformyouthat

theunithasstartedanalyzingambientsoundcomponents(approx.3

seconds).

Duringanalysis,soundreproductionfromtheunitisstoppedandthe

POWERindicatorblinks.

Whenanalysisiscompleted,themosteffectivenoisecancelingmodeis

setautomatically,andsoundreproductionfromtheheadphonesstarts.

Noise canceling mode types

NCModeA: Noisemainlyinanairplaneiseffectivelyreduced.

NCModeB: Noisemainlyinabusoratrainiseffectivelyreduced.

NCModeC: Noisemainlyfoundinanofficeenvironment(PC,copier,

airventilation,etc.)iseffectivelyreduced.

Tips

Whenthepoweroftheheadphonesisturnedon,NCModeAisset.(See

“Noisecancelingmodetypes”fordetailsaboutNCModeA.)

PresstheAINCbuttonagaintoresetthenoisecancelingmodeifambient

noisehaschanged,suchaswhenyoumoveoutdoorsfromaroom.

Hearing environment sound

playbacksilences,andyoucanhearthesurroundingenvironment.

What is noise canceling?

Thenoisecancelingcircuitactuallysensesoutsidenoisewithbuilt-in

microphonesandsendsanequal-but-oppositecancelingsignaltothe

headphones.

Thenoisecancelingeffectmaynotbepronouncedinaveryquiet

environment,orsomenoisemaybeheard.

Thenoisecancelingeffectmayvarydependingonhowyouwearthe

headphones.

Thenoisecancelingfunctionworksfornoiseinthelowfrequency

bandprimarily.Althoughnoiseisreduced,itisnotcanceled

completely.

Whenyouusetheheadphonesinatrainoracar,noisemayoccur

dependingonstreetconditions.

Mobilephonesmaycauseinterferenceandnoise.Shouldthisoccur,

locatetheheadphonesfurtherawayfromthemobilephone.

Notes on usage

Cleantheheadphoneswithasoftdrycloth.

Donotleavetheplugdirtyotherwisethesoundmaybedistorted.

BesuretoconsultaSonydealerwhentheearpadsbecomedirtyor

damaged,orwhentheheadphonesrequirerepairwork.

Donotleavethestereoheadphonesinalocationsubjecttodirect

sunlight,heatormoisture.

Donotsubjecttheheadphonestoexcessiveshock.

Ifyoufeeldrowsyorsickwhileusingtheseheadphones,stopuse

immediately.

Notes on headphones

Preventing hearing damage
Avoidusingheadphonesathighvolume.Hearingexpertsadvise

againstcontinuous,loudandextendedplay.Ifyouexperiencearinging

inyourears,reducethevolumeordiscontinueuse.

Do not use headphones while driving and cycling, etc.
Asheadphonesreduceoutsidesounds,theymaycauseatraffic

accident.Also,avoidlisteningwithyourheadphonesinsituations

wherehearingmustnotbeimpaired,forexample,arailroadcrossing,a

constructionsite,etc.

Note on static electricity

Inparticularlydryairconditions,noiseorsoundskippingmayoccur,

ormildtinglingmaybefeltonyourears.Thisisaresultofstatic

electricityaccumulatedinthebody,andnotamalfunctionofthe

headphones.

Theeffectcanbeminimizedbywearingclothesmadefromnatural

materials.

Ifyouhaveanyquestionsorproblemsconcerningthesystemthat

arenotcoveredinthismanual,pleaseconsultthenearestSony

dealer.

Troubleshooting
No sound

Replacethebattery.Youcanusetheheadphonesevenwithoutturning

onthepower.Inthiscase,thenoisecancelingfunction,Digital

EqualizerandS-Masterarenotactive,andtheheadphonesoperateas

passiveheadphones.

ChecktheconnectionoftheheadphonesandtheAVequipment.

CheckthattheconnectedAVequipmentisturnedon.

TurnupthevolumeoftheconnectedAVequipment.

The noise canceling effect is not sufficient

Thenoisecancelingfunctioniseffectiveinlowfrequencyrangessuch

asairplanes,trains,oroffices(nearair-conditioning,etc.)andisnotas

effectiveforhigherfrequencies,suchashumanvoices.

Turnontheheadphones.

Distorted sound

TurndownthevolumeoftheconnectedAVequipment.

Power does not turn on

Checkifthebatteryhasexpired(thePOWERindicatorlightsoff).

Replacethebatterywithanewone.

No operation works

SetthePOWERswitchoftheheadphonesto“OFF”,confirmthe

connections,andthensetthePOWERswitchbackto“ON”.
